3 September 2010 - The morning after the surgery...the tubes into his throat and nose were removed at 11:00pm the night before (very fast considering he woke on the same day of surgery and the tubes were removed on the same day of surgery). So his lungs are operating independent of breathing aids...
Ben was already talking upon my arrival and his short whispers grew steadier as the day progressed...he was talking by the end of the day and could already exercise, sit-up and feed himself by dinnertime...the tubes connected to his heart (thru the side of his chest) were also removed at around 5pm...so his heart is now operating independent of assistance...
My question to him many times today: Are you in pain?
Ben's answer throughout the day: Bearable...

4 September 2010 - Ben manages to stay sitting up for 3 hours in one-go...

5 September 2010 - The family is complete!
Today Ben is disconnected from all machines, tubes and wires...at 4:13pm (2 days after his surgery) he moves out of Intensive Care and returns to regular ward...
In almost all cases, there is one more "close observation room" to spend a few nights in before returning to the regular wards, but Ben skips this process and goes straight into a regular ward...he's recovering very fast and is already able to stand up...

6 September 2010 - Started to walk around today...

7 September 2010 - Removed bandages from leg & chest, Removed tubes (for medicine) from the neck, X-ray reveals lungs are great and walking longer distances...it's been a good day and doctor says Ben may go home tomorrow (8 sept)...
