SCREW THE NORMAL LIFE!!! I'm going diving...

7 years on-air on national radio, 19 years of corporate bullshit, I've climbed the ladders always ONLY to find more stress, dissatisfaction and LESS time for what matters.

I packed up my bags in February 2009 with only 5 shirts and 4 pairs of shorts and became a PADI Instructor to live "THE SIMPLE LIFE".

Today's 1 Picture and...

ANOTHER CROSSING THOUGHT

After being extremely enthusiastic about getting into the job, you have pushed yourself to accomplish big things, you have gone out of the way to blend in with the colleagues and get into the pace of the whole company.

It's a little bit like jumping into rapids, and after struggling for a while to find its flow, you get comfortable and start to follow its pace and direction. You follow every drop and every bend as if you were a part of this huge movement of water that doesn't stop but just keeps moving, moving & moving!

3 years down the line, you bob your head out of the water, look around you and ask, "Where am I now?", "How did I get here?", "Is this where I want to be?", "What happened to that place I knew before?", "If I get out of the water here, would I know how to find my way around?".

BEWARE!!! YOU WILL NEED TO BOB YOUR HEAD OUT OF WATER MORE OFTEN (ALONG THE WAY), SO YOU CAN MAINTAIN YOUR BEARINGS!

It's not a pretty thing when you cant seem to find the answer for the above questions!

You may have left your loved ones behind, your friends, your true passions and your soul!

NOW HERE'S THE IMPORTANT NOTE:

Look 1 level above you!

  • Does your immediate superior seem happier in life or is he / she more stressed than you?
  • Does he / she have more time to spend with their loved ones or children than you?
  • Does he / she have to come back on weekends to work?
  • Does he / she have to take work home to complete?
  • Does he / she have to put in more hours at work than you?
  • Does he / she get to go on holidays an NOT expect calls from the office?
  • Can he / she go on holidays and NOT have to read or reply emails?
If the answers to the above seem less favorable - THAT IS YOUR NEXT STEP UP! Working harder will get you there!

Ask yourself, "Is it really a good thing to move up one notch in your corporation"? Or would moving up one level in your organization chart mean moving one level down in your quality of life chart?
